Just a few highlights
and a little color…
Above, Lady Amethyst is getting a few highlights with a 1/4″ flat synthetic damp brush on dry paper. Lifting on dry paper is a simple way to lighten values and create dimension.
Here, I’ve introduced an accent, color opposite in a pure hue. I’ve been adding light washes of neutralized yellow and red all along while keeping blues and purples the dominant colors. This creates warmth and harmony.
All during the painting process, I step back and evaluate. I have a tendency to develop some sections further along than others to give me direction and encouragement. Even with the upper right portion mostly unfinished, I see something sadly lacking in the more developed central area of the painting.
Here’s a hint…
Even with a few highlights and a little color, a lady still needs some drama and depth to go from average to sensational 😉
